Random Friday

My mind is all over the place today. So, here we go...

After waiting A FULL YEAR to finally get someone here, we have the tile man coming today to finish the kitchen tile! Yeah! One of the problems of living so far out in the boonies is that no one really wants to come here to do any work for us. It takes 30 minutes just from the closest town, so you can see that this poses a real issue for most repairs that we can't do. I am thrilled this fella is actually coming through. So, there, all six of you other guys who didn't!

Weaving. Weaving. Weaving. I have warp on the living room loom for four towels. I want the loom out of the living room so I can put our Christmas tree in the front bay window... just where the loom is now. So, yesterday, I wove, wove, wove. One towel is done! At this rate, we will be decorating the tree on Christmas Eve!

This year I want to do a country Christmas theme using only what I have or can recycle. This will be fun as I want to use as many natural elements as I can. As beautiful as everything looks this morning with the heavy frost on it, I wish I could capture that look and bring it indoors!

Gifts. I have a table full of gifts to wrap today. The Mister and I adopted three boys from the Angel Tree. So much fun to shop for little people! Now, the wrapping. Not so much fun... And, speaking of gifts. I have a very special one coming next week. Can't wait to show you!

You see how I am mind mapping today?? Crazy. What are you up to today??

Random Thursday

It is October, right? We are predicted snow today. Gotta love the mountains...

The Airman's birthday was a few weeks ago. Guess who he sent flowers and a thank you note? If you ever doubt your parenting skills, this will make you certain you did okay ... or he did okay in spite of you!

Capri has still not learned that the fence is not the place to stick one's head. Since she is a mini-Alpine, she can still, at six months, get her head right into the fence. And she stays there until someone rescues her. The sweet thing about this is that Hollie, the cow, stands guard over her so the other goats can't bang on her. Hollie will stay until someone shows up to cut Capri out. She is also the only one Hollie will share her grain with at dinner time.

Last year I set my goal to double my farm income. I have and then some. Next year, I plan to do the same. For now, though, I have earned enough to pay my taxes, insurance, and now am working on one extra house payment. It is excited and all I can think about is how to make this place more productive. I need a clone, I think.

We are currently cleaning all the goat stalls using our backhoe. This debris is going on our gardens so we can try the no-till method next year. I am really excited to see how this goes. I think I will still grow potatoes the usual way, but the other things, I think, I will try no-till. Let's see what happens.

I am learning Japanese. The Airman has now started integrating Japanese words into his conversation. I just hope I don't say something really crude...

We have open house at the college tomorrow. This guy is coming. Have you seen his video? It makes me laugh out loud! Enjoy and have a great week! I promise to come for a visit soon!

Random Thoughts

Before I even sat down to work on the computer this morning, I dropped my coffee on the lovely handtied rug in front on my rocker and my English muffin with peanut butter face down on top of the coffee. Somehow, I don't trust today.

After dropping my toast and coffee, I sat down to read college email. Another professor had sent out an email reminding us to vote for our safety video which is a finalist in the statewide contest. Sadly, he meant to write "push." He missed a letter. I can't stop giggling because the next email from him attempted to explain it. Somehow, I think his day is going to be worse than mine. Lesson: proofread and don't explain.

Yesterday we had 46 eggs. (Yes, Ron, I have JUMBOS this week!) The girls are happy to be rid of the snake. Me, too.

Moose and Anabell aren't eating their food which means they have found deer remains somewhere. I have tried to catch them so we could get rid of it, but haven't been able to do it until Tuesday morning when I saw Moosie come to the porch, nudge Anabel and the two of them sauntered down the road. Evidently, they thought I had left, because when I showed up with the car following them (I was on an errand), they took off running to the house as though they had been caught with their paws in the Milk Bone jar. Isn't it funny how even dogs feel guilty? What's up with that??

Monday morning the Mister went out to uncover the bike for his ride to work. He heard: "Peep! peep! peep!" He looked everywhere, but couldn't find the source... that is... until he lifted the other bike cover. One of the escapee hens had set up a nest and her little guys were hatching! We have two yellow diddles and one black diddle. Mama is doing well; we are now checking everywhere for more rogue nests.

My nephew, who is 12, has decided to go into real estate because his CDs are not earning enough money. He is now looking at houses. He announced after leaving one house: "It smells like dog pee and would cost to much to recarpet. We need a fixer upper, but not one that needs that much fixer upping..." Somehow, I feel a future tycoon in the making.

Fall is in the air. For three nights now we have had to use a blanket and I have offered the Mister $20 to get up first and close the windows. Where did summer go?

How's your week been??

Another day gone... random thoughts

Today we visited the Civil War exhibit at the Concord Museum and walked to Walden Pond. It felt like home for a few minutes... sweet.. the rain was falling and the pond was nearly deserted. I could hear the brown thrush and the wood peckers.

One thing that surprises me about being here is that, while there isn't sweet tea, folks are as nice as they are down South. Everywhere I go, folks are kind, helpful, and pleasant.

There are enough sugar and artificial sweeteners, cups and stirrers left over from serving bagels every morning that I won't need any for the next year.

I have eaten ice cream from Kimball's Dairy for supper for three nights -- so far my favorite is coffee / Oreo. Holey moley.... I even sucked my shirt where I dripped some. I am so ashamed...

Evenings have been quiet; I have completed six dishcloths and one pair of socks this week. I am starting baby socks now...

The decision to give up TV at the Lazy Bee Farm was a great idea. There is nothing interesting on TV. Boring... and I can't even sleep any more with the TV on. Go figure...

My interest in the Concord Female Charitable Society has been re-ignited. I need just one more thing to do. I really want to write a paper and maybe even a book about them... But, I don't have time... I have another writing project underway and I just don't want to take the time from it right now. Do you think I could give up sleeping???

Did you know Don Henley of the Eagles saved some of the area around Walden Pond? He rocks. Literally.

What did you do today?

Call Me "Purty"

My friend Vicky and I took a load of books to donate to the library up on Whitetop Mountain this week and stopped at the little deli up there for lunch. As we sat on the porch eating and admiring the mountains, two fellas drove up in a truck. One got out and swaggered into the store, tipping his hat, and saying, "Morning, ladies" as he walked past. The other fella stayed in the truck. In a few minutes, he called out, "It sure is nice to see such purty ladies this morning!" Vicky and I looked around to see where they were.

"You two! You are sure some purty ladies! What you doing this morning?" He persisted. I answered him, "Just sitting here eating and admiring God's handiwork!"

Just then his buddy came out with a case of Budweiser. "Lunch," he quipped as he sauntered by.

As they drove off, I looked at Vicky. "I'd like being called a pretty lady more if he'd been sober."

I thought she would drop off the porch.

How's your week been?

Painting, Singing... and the goats say, "Baaaaadddd"

I am painting my studio today and rearranging it. Pics to come. In the meantime, I am listening to this:

And singing, er, wailing, at the top of my voice... The goats say, "Baaaadddd..." which isn't as harsh as when the Airman, as a wee little Airman, took his dear face from my breast as I sang "House at Pooh Corner" and put his dear little hand over my mouth and said his very first word: "NO!"

Enjoy!

Mind-Mapping Thursday

Last Thursday was such a hit, let's give it a go again...

We are cleaning my MIL's basement now. It is dark. It is full of trash and cobwebs. We found a mummified rat. We screamed. Now, no one will open anything without a lot of light and someone to hold their hand.

The Airman is quickly getting on my short list. I texted him: "I am in misery; we are in the basement." Response: "That stinks. I am in Hawaii."

Mother and I were loading some firewood into my truck. Me: "I know why we won't ever get old." Mother: "Why?" Me: "Because we won't sit down long enough."

For our anniversary this week, we decided to go to a little store up on Whitetop that has terrific deli sandwiches. When we got there, the deli had changed hours and closed. Instead, we shared a Hunt's pizza (he got the meat; I got the veggies), sodas, and Little Debbie cakes. It was perfect!

Never, never, never, no matter how great it sounds at the moment, wallpaper one wall with nothing but sheet music. You will learn the meaning of futile when you try to remove it.

You know you are married to the right person when you say: "I have a surprise! I've been waiting to show you!" when you are taking a leisurely drive and they respond: "Terrific! I have something to show you, too!" And then you find out it is the same thing.

And the best part of this week? It is June 23 and no one has been to the ER yet this summer. Will miracles ever cease??

Mind-Mapping Thursday

As I feel rather random today, I thought I would share just how my mind works -- randomly...

I have a flat tire on the Goat Mobile as a result of running over the spade of a fence post when unloading feed yesterday. It is still flat. I have to change it. It might stay flat another day.

The truck still has a load of wood on it because I thought it was going to storm yesterday, so I rushed to feed the does and kids, but then it didn't storm, but the Mister came home and we decided to go ahead and load Copper (the Dexter bull) to take to Market today, so we did but it took two hours, but he is loaded and gone. (Yes, I know that is a super long run-on sentence!) I joyfully waved "so long" this morning as the trailer went out of sight. And the truck still has wood on it...

When moving the cattle trailer last night, the Mister caught the edge of the chicken fence with the fender. Guess who has to rebuild a chicken fence? The Mister. *giggle*

After making coffee that only Airmen like (read: with oil on top, bleh), I have finally mastered using my stovepot perculator. It takes four minutes, not ten, to perk a really fine cuppa. You see the problem.

For the past two nights it has been in the 40s here. We had to turn on the heat last night to take the chill off. That's wrong, that's wrong, that's wrong.

Yesterday I had lunch with my dearest friends Sara and Julian. Their eight-year-old daughter Corrie wanted to show me how she can ride her bike. She did a great job. Then, I asked if I could try. Her bike is an 18" affair. I rode it down the drive way, giggling all the way. So did Corrie. "You look like a clown," she hooted.

Yeah. That's me. A clown.

Have a great Thursday and find something to laugh about!

Random Thoughts....

It snowed yesterday. Two inches.

Today the sun was shining and it was 60-degrees.

What's up with that??

If I were clever, I'd show you a picture of something wonderful. Tonight I am not clever. I am tired. Bone tired. Why can't women sleep sitting up like men?? Doesn't their neck hurt? Don't they drool on themselves? How do they do that??

I have decided that if I get a redo of my life, I am either coming back as a poodle or a Southern man. Either has little sense and both are over indulged.

Good night!
