Suck it up

Conversation overheard in the barn last night...
Annabell, our resident drama queen: I am in LABOR; it HURTS. I am suffering like no one else has in the history of the world! This is terrible!

Mia, the resident midwife: Go lie down and breath. It will be faster that way.

Annabell, charging out the stall door and turning to the does in the loafing yard: Look at me! Look! I am dying here! It isn't my fault! Oh My Goodness! I am dying...

Me: Annabell, you are shaming yourself. Get back in the barn and have these babies.

Annabell: Isn't anyone listening? I am dying, I tell you! I can't stand this! No one told me it was going to be like this.

Mia: Lie down and breath, for crying out loud. I'm a pygmy and I don't carry on like you do. Breath!

Annabell: You don't understand. I hurt more than you do because it is ME!

Mia: Breath. Suck it up and shut up.

Annabell: OH MY GOSH! This can't be happening!

Mia said nothing. She was done.

So was I.

We have another doe and buck --- Apple and Abe. Pictures to come...

  1. I love it! I would so love to have goats. This may seem like a really dumb question but do you milk pygmy goats? They are so adorable. Can't wait to see the pictures.

  3. Congratulations, Annabell. I'm sure the babies were worth all the drama of getting them here.

  4. We do not milk ours, but you can milk pygmies. By all accounts, they are good little milkers and are just right if you don't want gallons of milk.

Brenda, she is still fussing today; however, it is more of: Look what I did All By Myself.... What a diva!

  5. Lol!! Those Herdqueens come by it naturally you know?! Something of a status symbol I guess. They have to have something dramatic going on! Glad it went fairly easy despite all her fanfare!

  8. Guess goats are a lot like people. There's always one drama queen in the bunch. Your herd must be getting pretty big!

  9. I just enjoy your adventures so much! I still maintain that there is a wonderful book to be written: The Adventures of Matty on Lazy Bee Farm!

Sounds like all involved need some rest!!

  10. Poor first time momma--I bet it wasn’t an easy go at all. Is she pleased with her new babies?

  11. Believe it or not, Amy, she has two other kiddings behind her. She truly is a drama queen! LOL She seems very proud. In fact, when I went out the next morning to check her, she walked out, quite proudly and announced, "Look at what I did All By Myself." What a gal! LOL
