First day musings --- A Favor?

Dear Person In Charge,

The day after Halloween, I was in a certain big box store and heard Christmas music. I took a deep breath, finished my shopping, and vowed not to go back in there until New Year's Day. I was Perfectly Okay with that as I don't like the big box store anyhow and olnly went in there because I Had To.

Last week, I turned my car radio on to my favorite oldies station. Christmas Music. Yeppers. Fa-la-la-la-la. Bleh.

Today, I was coming home from my parent's house. Sigh. There it was. A huge annoying over-the-top Inflatable Santa. If I had my BB gun, I would have shot it. Numerous times.

I'm not a humbug. I am not a Scrooge. But, starting Christmas three months early is like having candy every day for breakfast. After a few days, you start to want something different. Would it be too much to ask that if Chrsitmas has to be commercialized, can it at least wait until AFTER Thanksgiving? If you would only wait until then, I will be the very first to stand on my porch, stringing those atrocious lights, setting up my inflatable Santa Claus and singing "Deck the Halls!" at the top of my lungs.

Thanks,

Your Friend Matty

  1. I wholeheartedly agree! I think Christmas is grand...after all, my birthday is two days before, but really? Starting the season at Halloween? Santa mingled with the zombies? Rudolph with the turkeys? Will the day come when we string Christmas lights and fire off 4th of July firecrackers? How will we cope when we celebrate all the holidays simultaneously all year long. I know I'll crack! No doubt about it! ~Grin~

  2. Dear Matty,

My sentiments exactly! Our neighbors' inflatable Santa has already deflated, he's been out so long. :)

    Love,

  3. Lol. It's true, it starts earlier every year. I was in The Dollar Store in mid October looking for Halloween stuff. There was Halloween stuff on one side of the aisle and Christmas stuff on the other. Mid October !!

  4. That's funny as I was driving to campus this afternoon and saw a house (in the daytime) with Christmas lights and a huge inflated Santa.

I also thought it too early, at least let us have Thanksgiving.

I sometimes listen to Christmas music off and on all year just because I love it but I don't like it when stores push Christmas. We know it is only for money...

  5. I actually don't mind SOME of it because I have to send most of my presents in the mail the first week in December, it helps to get me in the Christmas mood while shopping in November. But this year The Grinch was on TV the first week of November. That's ridiculous!
